More from Gautam Makwana and his wife Parul

You will remember the couple from India that we wrote about several months ago. This couple  is a study and an inspiration in never being willing to give up your dream.

They are from India and it is very difficult for people from India and the Middle East to relocate to the countries with which we are familiar. We don’t know why. Here at FFJ we do have some connections with people who have occasion to work in government offices here and they hear discussions about concerns that too many immigrants will change the culture here and they do not want the culture to change.

For example, American citizens and Europeans really don’t change the culture here very much. Americans have much in common with people in this part of South America because our origins are all largely European. But a mass immigration from the Middle East or Asia definitely could change things.

When Gautam first contacted us and we tried to help him, we soon found that he had been in touch with just about every immigration professional that we knew, and several wanted nothing more to do with him. The thing is, he never quits. Many people get discouraged and quit. Not Gautam. No  matter how much rejection he faced, he wanted his family in a better situation.

Once he emailed us that they had been denied again (in Paraguay, I believe), and that Parul was packing and crying. Their airplane tickets, that they had to have before they could even apply, were non refundable, they had traveled to the consulate in the capital, as required, waited in a hotel room for results, and now they were packing to go home. .

But persistence has its rewards. Gautam and his family, which now includes little Sarah, are happy in Ecuador and he sent us some figures in the hope it would help some of you who have an interest in Ecuador

In their case, both he and his wife have university degrees, she in the medical field and he in English. They were and are well able to provide for themselves financially. They applied to Argentina, Paraguay, Peru and I may have missed one along the way. They speak several languages and now have  learned Spanish. Gautam knows that learning Spanish is important to his success in Latin America and so he set out to add yet another language. He also speaks Hebrew as well as his native tongue..

We know that many of you have an interest in Ecuador and so we publish his figures: The Makwanas will be citizens of Ecuador in 2016 and little Sarah is already a citizen by birth.

They have been in Quito, Ecuador, since April 2014. Both were able to get jobs as nursing assistant in one of the best Quito nursing homes according to Gautam, and as lab technician. Their monthly salaries were $750 US equivalent and $1500 US equivalent respectively,  They pay $100 rent for two large rooms unfurnished including utilities, and $300 a month for food. His parting comment is “We live the simple life and pass the good days.”

Parul left her job and is caring for their baby girl, Sarah, full time. We thought you would like to see this couple since we wrote about them before.
